Thursday's Outfit: Red, Black, White Stars

I'm not really sure how I'm going to keep track as to whether I wore a certain outfit or not. I did make a list on Flickr so I can look at the whole challenge at once.

I had a lot of fun people watching on Wednesday at the Victorville Mall and more fun shopping on Thursday at Hobby Lobby.

Here again I discovered that 2 different shirts were the same color.
I never thought to wear them together before.

A wet day but my black leggings kept me toasty.

I love my black lace gloves.

Red tank: Walmart
Red T-shirt: Thrifted
Black Skirt: Something I bought years ago.
Black Leggings: Torrid
Black Gloves: Pier One Imports
Running shoes: Payless Shoe Source

Outfit 7 Navy and Red

Finally an outfit where I'm not wearing black. Definitely sweater weather. I've finished week one of the challenge. The hardest part is looking at myself in the photos. But I am enjoying the creative aspect of putting together outfits.

Navy pants: Walmart
Red Sweater: Walmart
Navy Flip-Flops
Black Timex Watch: Walmart
Star bandanna: Walmart

A New 90 Day Fashion Challenge

Yesterday I started a huge new fashion project based on the book I was telling you about. For three months I will come up with a different outfit each day, and here is the kicker. It has to be from clothes I already own, or I can buy thrifted or vintage items, but no new purchases. It doesn't say whether or not I can sew new things out of supplies I already have but I figure if I'm that motivated and it gets me sewing again, then sure, why not? I'm just glad I already bought 2 pairs of black leggings at Torrid a few days ago, because that will give me a lot more winter looks. If you want to do this along with me, drop me a comment so I can highlight your blog posts too.  And you don't have to look like a model. I sure don't.

1. Put together an outfit you haven't done before for this challenge.
2. Take at least one full length  photo and a close-up.
3. Post it to your blog.
4. List the items in the outfit and where you got them if you have time.

Deep Red
So here is the outfit I wore yesterday: Red striped t-shirt from Walmart, Red skirt from Holy Clothing, Little red purse: Thrifted Flip-flops because it's the desert. Red print scarf also thrifted.
Now if I'd wanted the cat in the photo he never would have done it. He likes playing with the dags on my skirt.

I love wearing wine or burgundy red.

Here you can see the scarf and the shirt better.

If an outfit is comfortable I will wear it a lot.

For day two I wanted to go with a fun cowgirl theme. I've been fighting with the country girl image ever since I moved here from the city 2 years ago. But the longer I am here, the more country I feel. Then when my neighbor gave me her favorite and expensive cowgirl hat, how could I resist? She was moving out of state and she's almost 80, so she wasn't planning on needing this hat anymore. I was happy to have it.

Red shirt: thrifted
Black pants: Walmart
Boots: Walmart
Hat: Gift
The whole outfit was under $40 and half of that was the boots.

Four of our six chickens.

When I got this shirt at the thrift store I assumed it was too small. I was going to cut it up. But I was happy to find it fit!

The shirt says cowgirls don't cry.

Loving the hat Dixie gave me. Now she was the real cowgirl.

I'll wear this hat again if I can find my turquoise jewelry.

Fall Fashion Combos in Red and More

After running across this yesterday on Pinterest I was inspired. I especially like the vest in the first photo.
I'm jealous that she has her own photo booth set up to document all her outfits. The only new purchase in her project was the red jeans. The rest of the pieces came out of her existing collection. With a few accessories she could make double this amount of looks easily.  So as the saying goes, shop your own closets first. With school coming up, now is the time to fix lost buttons, replace a broken zipper, or dye white pieces to mask stains and such. Get all your ducks in a row before school starts and you'll be able to dress for weeks as you adjust to your new homework load. And then you can spend your money on textbooks and art supplies, not on more clothing. Have pity on your budget.

Red Sweater

I just bought a scarlet red cable sweater to go with my autumn wardrobe theme of pink, red, and gray. Since winter is already knocking at the door, I decided to wrap up the autumn thing and move on to my winter designs.

First Outfit From Things I Already Own

I gathered some of the pink, red and gray items I already own and came up with this outfit.  The only down side is though this skirt is new, it's too tight for me to wear for long, the belt is two belts hooked together and I need to find a better way to do that and I'm not a big fan of bandanas on my neck.  It looks fine but I feel like I'm being choked after a while.

And without a bra it's a bit too revealing.  With a bra I feel suffocated. Dilemmas. But at least I got off of top dead center. I may let the skirt out.  The long sleeved t-shirt has a Halloween design on the front, so I either have to keep covering it up, or just wear it in October. But it's progress. The longest I could wear this outfit is 2 hours tops.

Dyeing the Shirts

You know that quiet little voice in your head that says 'uhoh' and then you rationalize it and ignore it?
When I ran out of fabric, my boyfriend went out and got another 2 yards.  I just had the yokes to cut out.  As I was cutting them I thought, "This fabric sure seems smoother." It was the same color (natural) but just felt a bit different. I chalked it up to not being pre-shrunk, and maybe a bit of sizing in there. So I cut it out and carried on. But he had grabbed the wrong bolt of fabric.  I recall they had about 5 off-white linens, and I guess they were not all the same.

When my boyfriend dyed it red, the smoother fabric took the dye differently. The yoke is definitely lighter that the rest.  But we lucked out. It looks like a more complicated two-toned shirt.  It wouldn't have looked so good if the back yoke was the old fabric and the front yoke was the new fabric. Now it looks like I meant to do that.

The other frustrating thing was I used white thread for both, but one spool must have been cotton and the other polyester, because the threads on the red shirt resisted the dye and stayed white. My boyfriend said it didn't matter to him.  The inner seamstress in me is crying though. You can't really tell in this photo though because of the shadows.  But he's already left to the event so I can't take another photo.

Dyeing the Shirt

The shirts are being dyed right now. Thankfully that wasn't my job. This is the burgundy one.  I haven't seen the other one yet and it's out in the dryer. He said it's moss green.

Staying Home to Sew

I have so much sewing to do! And I'm staying home all day tomorrow to do some of it. I usually go to a cycling event with my boyfriend, but it takes up an entire day.  He has fun running the snack table at the Amtrak 100, but I just sit and draw or work on crafts all day so it's not the best use of my time.  He hardly knows I'm there he's so super busy.  So this year I opted out.  I'm sitting at home and making my sewing machine my best friend.

The color scheme of my fall wardrobe are red, pink and gray.
